This week sees the opening of a brand new exhibition from BAFTA and photographer Sarah M Lee, documenting behind the scenes action at BAFTA’s EE British Academy Film Awards and House of Fraser British Academy Television Awards in 2015. The exhibition also features iconic candid moments of stars including Eddie Redmayne, Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette, Julianne Moore, David Harewood and Maisie Williams.
Sarah M Lee is the official photographer for The Guardian and The Observer and has twice been selected for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize. She was commissioned by BAFTA to shoot on the red carpet and backstage at both their film and television awards. A selection of her favourite work at the awards will be shown in the exhibition.
As a counterpoint to these photographs, there will be a selection of work from BAFTA’s archive by photographer Michael J Barrett, BAFTA’s main photographer during the ’70s. Michael covered the Awards as well as special events including the Royal Opening of the organisation’s headquarters, BAFTA 195 Piccadilly.
The first edition of each work will be displayed at the exhibition, which will be available for sale once the event has closed. For more information and opening times visit the website here.
