A new grill house is opening that will be a real lifesaver for those working in Soho. Launching Friday, Suvlaki is a sleek and casual restaurant serving delicious Greek street food.

Yannis Theodorakakos, the co-owner of the Greek restaurant, wants to update London’s perception of Greek food, believing ‘Greek street food in particular, which revolves around ‘souvlaki’, has a very limited presence outside Greece’. Acclaimed Greek chef Elias Mamalakis has been brought on as a consultant chef, and has designed several signature dishes for Suvlaki. For those of you who don’t know, souvlaki is a grilled meat skewer, which can be eaten plain or inside a wrap, and the menu includes some fantastic sides, such as Elias’ fresh herb and vegetable salad and baked feta. There’s even a fully Greek wine menu to go alongside the dishes, with rare bottled craft beers from selected microbreweries in Greece, making an appearance.

The owners have even incorporated Athens’ notorious satirical graffiti into their brand design to complete the authentic Greek experience. You won’t find any bouzouki dancing at this venue. The décor is dark and understated, with a palette of blues appearing throughout the finishes. The feature grill has even been placed in the position of honour at the front of the restaurant, creating a theatre atmosphere and showcasing the specialist grilling that will take place.
