, a restaurant in Girona, Spain with three Michelin stars, was last night named the World’s Best Restaurant for the first time by Restaurant magazine. The restaurant, which is headed up by three brothers: Josep, Jordi and Joan Roca has made it onto the list for the past eight years, and has been in second place for the past two years.

The World’s 50 Best ceremony, sponsored by San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, was held at the illustrious Guildhall in London. In attendance were some of the most experienced and respected restaurateurs, chefs, and culinary connoisseurs on the planet.

Noma, the famous Copenhagen venue overseen by innovative head Chef Rene Redzepi, was looking to make it a staggering four consecutive years at the top. However, the tables have turned with Noma now sitting in second place. Furthermore, a new restaurant has taken the third place position this year – Osteria Francescana, from Modena, Italy.

There were a number of other awards, aside from the all important list, which were presented at the ceremony. Narisawa from Tokyo, Japan was awarded the first ever Sustainable Restaurant Award, sponsored by Zacapa. The Silestone Chef’s Choice Award went to Alinea, from Chicago Illinois. Additionally, some of the prestigious awards were announced in advance, as discussed in our preview earlier this month.
