Jaime Winstone and Pam Hogg at the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair 2012
Featuring 70 of the best British artists, from Sir Peter Blake and Gavin Turk to Marcus Harvey and Billy Childish, the tenth Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair is set to cause a stir when it opens on the 9th June at the Old Truman Brewery.
Set in a car park, the one day event, famous for being the day where the art world is less formal and more relaxed, will see artists selling originals and limited editions of their work. The day is expected to be highly crowded, with many people having previously camped to make sure they get in, view and purchase the wonderful art on show.
Artists include Marcus Harvey, who will have an exclusive print from Nigel Cooke, as well as a very special limited edition of his infamous 2009 piece ‘Maggie,’ a depiction of Margaret Thatcher. Gavin Turk will also feature his new 2013 collection as well as pieces that showcase his ten year involvement with the event.
Also returning is renowned artist Sir Peter Blake. All proceeds raised from the 110 Blake pieces will go towards Just For Kids Law, a charity that helps children in London who have had trouble with the law or in school, Kids Company and Help for Heroes. Vintage Vauxhall cars will also be on show and will provide the backdrop for the art on display in celebration of 110 years of Vauxhall Motors. Talking about the event, Sir Peter Blake said that he always looks “forward to seeing what Gavin Turk will do on the day as well as Tracey Emin, Polly Morgan, Bob and Roberta Smith – it’s a bit of a reunion every year!”
In celebration of its tenth year, Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair will also release ten golden tickets, which will give the winners access to the event ten minutes before everyone else. This gives them the chance to experience before others the excitement that the event will no doubt have in store, as well as get first choice at the available art on sale.
