Despite his privileged upbringing and aristocratic connection, Lichfield began his career as a photographer’s assistant earning only 3 pounds a week. His big break came when he signed with American Vogue.
The Earl of Lichfield’s favoured subjects were the social and celebrity set, including movie stars, musicians and models. Amongst his most iconic snaps, are Mick and Bianca Jagger on their wedding day, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in exile.
He gained prominence when invited to be the ‘Royal Photographer’ to the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1981.
Nudes
Patrick Lichfield was a self professed “admirer of feminine beauty”. His passion was most heavily reflected in the now renowned Unipart Calendar, shot in glamorous locations throughout the world, with an accent on beautiful models.
The Little Black Gallery is exhibiting his work until May 26th. The nude collection is part of his lesser known works and are being exhibited for the first time.
